Big Dog Pots Pottery is a working Studio offering a variety of mediums including clay making, wheel throwing, fused glass, stained glass, canvas painting, mosaics and pottery painting.
Our field trips normally run from approximately 9:00 am. – 1:00 pm. with time for students to enjoy a packed lunch. Students will experience a round robin of art making structured to complement your art syllabus and can include fused glass, wheel throwing, mosaics, and canvas painting. Nine (9) pottery wheels and an expansive 5,000 square foot Studio space offer an ideal physical environment for a successful experience. In addition, the Studio at Big Dog Pots Pottery is fully handicapped accessible complete with ramped entrance and 2 handicapped bathrooms on our first floor.
Fused Glass During our fused glass making, we discuss the chemistry of glass, how to work with glass materials, the basics of glass cutting, and the overall firing process. Students create 4 x 4 inch window hangings in any design they would like using a variety of materials including glass frits, noodles, baubles and more. We have protective eyewear and gloves.
Wheel Throwing During wheel throwing students learn the basics of how clay is made, how molecular structure influences clay bodies, and the basics of throwing. They will have 2 pieces of clay to work with on the wheel. Each student will initial in their pieces and the pieces can be packaged to go back to the school with you for firing and glazing.
Canvas Painting Students are encouraged to arrive with a pre-sketched design that they will transfer to the canvas and then paint. We provide a 8 x 10 inch canvas, aprons, paints, brushes and instructional assistance.
We look forward to working with you to create a fun and educational experience for your students. Contact us to schedule your field trip. (540) 364-2834 bigdogpots@gmail.com
Big Dog Pots began as a way to give back to the community. We feel it very important in this day of the digital age, to encourage creativity and artistic expression in our youth. We tell our students "there is no right way and no wrong way, just a successful result and something we need improve upon!"
